Obituary

Father Kizito Thompson, OCSO, a Trappist monk of St. Joseph's Abbey, 167 North Spencer Road, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after an illness.

Born Earl Anthony Thompson in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1940, he received a Masters of Divinity degree from St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, N.Y.

He was ordained a priest in 1970. In 1978 he entered the Trappist monastery of St. Joseph’s Abbey in Spencer, professing his vows in 1980. He served the monastery as infirmarian, cellarer and porter.

As well as his brothers at the Abbey, Father Kizito is survived by his sisters Louise Brown, Dolores Daymon, and Gilda J. Patterson, and his brother, Ralph Lane. He was predeceased by his brothers Harvey, Jr., Donald M., Keith V. and Mark Anthony Thompson.

Father Kizito’s family and his brothers at the Abbey wish to express their gratitude to the staff of Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for the very attentive care they gave him.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 3 at 2 P.M. at St. Joseph's Abbey. Burial is in the Abbey cemetery. J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terrace, Spencer, is directing arrangements.
