Obituary

Augusta, GA - Fred “Red” Johnson, 91, beloved husband of the late Dorothy Mildred Johnson, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Trinity Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Rev. Mark Sterling officiating. Interment with military honors to follow in West View Cemetery.

Fred loved his family, he was devoted to all of us. He believed in hard work, and was a self-made man. Fred will be remembered as an amazing husband, father, and grandfather.

Fred was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. Following his service to his country, he began working with the City of Augusta in 1946 and then continued working with Richmond County for 56 years. Fred loved going to the lake house where he enjoyed going fishing. He also loved the Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Fred is survived by his son, Donald Johnson (Carol); his brother, Billy Gene Johnson (Juanita); his sister, Birdie Youngblood; his grandchildren, Michele Collman (Chris), Chris Johnson (Tracy), and Casey Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Megan Collman, Jessica Collman, Chandler Johnson, Madeline Johnson, Jordan Ashley Johnson, and Gavin Johnson; his brothers-in-law, Kenneth, J.C., and Lamar Young; and by his sisters-in-law, Midge Johnson, and Bobbie Jean Cheadle.

Pallbearers will be Chandler Johnson, Ricky Poston, James Hornsby, Gary Youngblood, and Chris Collman.

If so desired memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, November 28, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM
