Mary Nanopoulos, 92, of New Bedford died Thursday November 15, 2012 at Royal Taber Street Nursing Home.
Born in Fitchburg, the daughter of the late Theodore and Helen (Kostas) Nanopoulos, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and a former member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Miss Nanopoulos was the proprietor of the Alpha Spa on Cove Street for over 30 years. She was also employed by the New Bedford School Department as a lunch aide at the Rodman School.
Her family would like to thank the staff at the Royal Taber Street Nursing Home for the excellent care, support, and compassion provided to Mary. She considered the staff part of her extended family. A special thank you is extended to family and friends who visited, sent cards, or telephoned her and lifted her spirits.
Survivors include a brother, Constantine Nanopoulos and his wife Grace of North Fort Myers, FL; a sister-in-law, Maria Nanopoulos of New Bedford; a niece, Elaine Safioleas; three nephews, Peter Nanos and his wife Connie, Nicholas and Mark Nanopoulos; two great-nieces, Kelly Gomes and her husband Scott and Marialena Nanos; four great-nephews, Bryan Safioleas and his wife Diane, Ross and Matthew Nanopoulos, and Alexander Nanos; and four great-great-nephews, Nikolas Safioleas, Mason, Elijah, and Landon Gomes. She is also survived by several cousins and special friends.
She was the sister of the late Nicholas Nanopoulos, George Nanopoulos and James Nanos and the sister-in-law of the late Mary Nanos.
At her request, burial services in Pine Grove Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, P.O.
