Obituary

East Bridgewater – Frederick W. Hawkins 89 passed away on Sunday November 25. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to the late Myrtle M. (Cordingley) Hawkins.

Born and raised in Everett he was the son of the late Fred and Ann (Varley) Hawkins and a graduate of Everett High School, class of 1945.

As a proud Veteran of WWII, he entered the US Army in 1943 and served as a Chief Radio Operator of the Headquarters Company of the 296th Engineer Combat Battalion. His battalion had seen combat action during the invasion of Normandy and Omaha Beach as well as 5 major campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his discharge in 1945 he had attended Burdett College in Boston.

Fred had retired after 28 years working as a Central Office Technician for the New England Telephone. He enjoyed his retirement traveling the country with his wife Myrtle in their “RV.”

He is survived by his loving children Dawn Flavell and her partner Hugo DiMartino of East Bridgewater and Daniel Hawkins and his wife Carol of Carver. He is also survived by his grandchildren Shayne Flavell Nacar, David Flavell, Shawn Herrick and Alan Hawkins, his great grandchildren Sadie, Abigail, Samantha and Anthony and his sister-in-law Joan Cordingley as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ethel (Hawkins) Holt and her husband Freddie Holt, and brother-in-law of the late Harvey Cordingley.
