Obituary

Frances l (Brown) Larson, of Peabody, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, November 23rd at the Chelsea Soldiers' Home. Frances was the beloved wife of the late Paul Larson, having shared 60 years of marriage .

Frances was born in Eastport, ME., and was the daughter or Thomas and Irma (Capen) Brown. At an early age she moved to Cambridge, Mass., where she graduated from Cambridge High and Latin in 1937. She then attended and graduated from the The Mount Auburn School of Nursing and subsequently enlisted as a nurse in the army. Frances was one of the first six nurses to be stationed in the South Pacific during world War II. She was a first Lieutenant with the 92nd Evacuation Hospital and served with her unit until the war ended.

Upon her honorable discharge, Frances worked as the company nurse for Liberty Mutual before beginning her career at Salem Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive care Unit. After retirement in 1985, she brought her skills and passion for nursing to Beverly Hospital, where she volunteered in the nursery and earned her 1000 hour pin in 1993.

Throughout the years, Frances was involved in many career organizations and social groups. She was the National Treasurer and Recording Secretary of NAACOG (Nurses' Association of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) She was active in the League of Women Voters, the American Red Cross, and Girl Scouts of America, as well as the local Couples Club and Homemakers Club. She also loved to travel.

Frances leaves her devoted daughter Laurie Cushing and her husband Richard, of Lynn, her cherished granddaughter, Christen Hannigan and her husband George, of Peobody and great-grandson Alexander, also of Peabody, who brought constant joy to her days. She was predeceased by her sister,
Elizabeth (Betty) O'Brien, of Cambridge.

A Memorial service and celebration of Frances' life will be held following the holidays. Memorial donations may be made to : The Commandant's Office, Chelsea Soldiers Home,
91 Crest Avenue, Chelsea, Ma. 02150 in Frances' name.
