Obituary

CHICOPEE – Anita J. (Blette) Flathers, 85, a longtime resident of Chicopee and currently a resident of Keystone Commons in Ludlow was Called Safely Home on Friday November 23, 2012. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on October 14, 1927 a beloved daughter of the late Noel and Orise (Peloquin) Blette. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946 and lived in Springfield for many years. She moved to Bettendorf, Iowa and in 1986 moved to Chicopee where she lived for many years before relocating to Keystone Commons in Ludlow in 2010. She was employed as an office clerk at the Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Company in Springfield. She was a communicant of the former Saint Mary Church in East Springfield which is now Mary, Mother of Hope Church where she was a member of the Women’s Club of the parish. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters, Roland, Norman, Conrad, Gerald and Marcel Blette, Lorraine Blette, Claire White and Yvette White. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Frederick J. Flathers. They were married on May 14, 1949 at Saint Joseph Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 63 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three loving children, Richard J. Flathers and his wife, Vicki of Pawleys Island, SC, Timothy J. Flathers and his wife, Julia of Bemidji, MN and Theresa J. Maurer and her husband, Mitch of Brooklyn Park, MN; her four cherished grandchildren, Christopher Flathers and his wife, Kristina, Kari Flathers and her partner, Joe Kazer, Kristen Parsons and her husband, Sam and Alex Maurer; her two cherished great-grandchildren; Henry Flathers and Eva Parsons; her loving sister, Jeannette Maslak of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, November 27, 2012 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday morning, November 27, 2012 from 9 am to 10:30 a.m. before the Mass. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
