Obituary

Loren Edward Ross, age 94, of Salem, New Hampshire died peacefully in his sleep on November 20th at Langdon Place of Exeter in Exeter New Hampshire. Edward was born on July 30, 1918 and spent most of his life in Salem before moving to be closer to his granddaughter. Edward graduated from Woodbury High School in 1937 and served with the US Army Air Corps in Europe and Africa in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the grade of Staff Sergeant (E-5). Edward was employed by the State of New Hampshire Highway Dept. as a Maintenance Foreman in 1946 and was raised to State Inspector for Projects in 1952. He was promoted to resident Engineer in 1954 until 1958 when he resigned to accept a position as foremen with the Universal Fence Company in Lawrence.

Edward served 6 years on the Salem School Committee. He served 2 years as Chairman and then as a member of the Salem Town Budget Committee. In 1965 Edward was elected Selectman, Town of Salem and served 6 years, 2 years as Chairman. Ed’s concern for others and his community had a profound effect on all who were fortunate to know him. We will miss his great sense of humor and his ability to make us all strive to be a better person.

Thank you “Bumpy” for making us a better person. We would also like to thank the folks at Langdon Place who loved him like their own. He was predeceased by his wife Phyllis June McClary of Salem and daughter, Darla Ross McLeod. He was also predeceased by his sister Phyllis Ross Smith of Salem.

Edward is survived by his nephew/son, Kenneth Stone of Las Vegas, NV; son-in-law, Walter Harvey McLeod of Summerton, SC; grandsons, Harvey Ross McLeod of Summerton, SC and Brian Stone of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughters, Heather McLeod Mahoney of Rye, NH and Lori Manzanares of Las Vegas, NV; six great grandchildren and several very special nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be on Tuesday, November 27th from 10:00AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:00AM at Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home; 214 Main Street, Salem NH. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem.
