Obituary

Retired Boston Firefighter, Stephen T. Langone, a resident of West Roxbury and formerly of Charlestown, passed into eternal life suddenly on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 67 years old.

Steve was born in Boston on May 25, 1945, a son of the late Anthony J. Langone and Juliana (Marszalek) Langone. He grew up in Mattapan where he was a newspaper boy at St. Angela's Church every Sunday. He graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1964. He enlisted into the United States Navy on September 14, 1965 and served his country proudly and honorably on the U.S.S. Barry during the Vietnam Conflict. He was discharged on September 4, 1969 with the rank of Quarter Master Third Class. Steve joined the Boston Fire Department in 1969 and was assigned to Ladder 15, Engine 33 on Boylston St. He transferred to Grove Hall; then to Safety Car (H1); then to Engine 39 in South Boston; then to Engine 50 in Charlestown; then to become Hospital Representative car driver (car 11); and returned to Engine 50 in Charlestown where he retired in May of 2010 after 41 years of service to the City of Boston. He was a member of the The Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718, The Boston Sparks Museum and The McKeon A.L. Post # 146. He was a former employee of Burke Distributors and Eagle Air Freight. He enjoyed his friends at Onset beach every summer, he donated his time to Charlestown Boys & Girls Club swim team for 10 years. He volunteered for the Boston Firefighters Annual Road Race as well as Sparks Club events. He was an active member of the Boston Fire Department's Liar's Club and the Mystic Valley Railroad Society. He loved being at Angle Pond Grove Campground in New Hampshire with all his summer friends. He enjoyed the Red Sox and Patriots and just recently attended his first game at Gillette Stadium against the Buffalo Bills for Veterans Appreciation Day. He also enjoyed taking trips with his wife Debbi which included 2 weeks in Aruba this past year.

Steve is the beloved husband of 26 years to Deborah K. "Debbi" (Brooks) Langone. He is the devoted father of Jillianne LaVallee, Boston Firefighter Gregory LaVallee, Engine Co. # 50 and Justina Langone. He is the proud Grandfather of Brendan LaVallee. He is the beloved twin brother of Constance Langone and beloved brother of Anthony J. Langone Jr. and the late Michael Langone.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Steve's Funeral on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 10 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 a.m. Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, November 25, 2012 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
