
WAYLAND: Sally (Spofford) Powers, 83, died peacefully under the care and comfort of her family at her Wayland residence on Sunday morning, November 18, 2012 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Arlington on June 10, 1929 the daughter of the late Carl Spofford and Mildred (Crocker) Spofford.
She was the beloved wife for 41 years of the late Edward W. Powers who died in December of 1990. Sally and Edward were devoted to each other and considered each to be the love of each others lives.
She is survived by her sister Susan Gee of Ellsworth, ME and many loving and cherished nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Sally was the sister of the late Philip S. Spofford; Darthea Frederickson and James Spofford. She is also survived by her devoted dog Angela.
Sally spent her formative years in Arlington and has been a resident of Wayland for over 62 years. She was a graduate of Arlington High School where she excelled in sports, particularly basketball, archery and field hockey. For several years, she was associated with C.F. Carlson Furriers as a sales associate.
She loved gardening at her home with both vegetable and flower gardens, was an excellent cook, enjoyed building and collecting doll houses, and was skilled at crafting and designing many craft projects. She enjoyed spending time on the Cape with her family and friends. Sally loved to be around her family who was the center of her life. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the Wayland Fire and Rescue Department, her many neighbors who assisted her, her dog walker, her gardener and the many hospice companions who helped make the end of her life a bit easier.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mount Auburn St, Cambridge.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial gifts in Sally’s memory may be sent to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, POB 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
