
Mashantucket Pequot Elder Arline (Walking Woman) Phelmetta, age 84, passed away on Friday Nov. 16, 2012 at William Backus Hospital.
She was born Sept. 9. 1928, she leaves behind her Sister Mashantucket Pequot Elder Ms. Eunice Mitchell. She was predeceased by three of her children Billy, Michael, and Laveeda. She is survived by her daughter and son Tribal Elders Arline Boyd, and Herbert Boyd Jr. Both of Mashantucket, Ct. Several Grandchildren Alethea Gilliam, Deidre Boyd who was her caretaker, St. Aubyn Boyd, Pre Boyd, Donna Foster, Diane Jackson, Michael Goodwin, Corey Goodwin, Eileen Boyd, and Herbert Boyd III, many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was the Matriarch of five generations of Mashantucket Pequots. She was the tribal storyteller and Pequot oral historian. She has countless relatives and friends worldwide. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. After a wonderful journey here The Great Spirit has called His daughter home. So many of us were blessed by her presence and wisdom. Now we get to celebrate the life that touched so many hearts.
Viewing will be held at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum on Wednesday from 11am until 12noon. A service will follow at 12noon with burial following at the Tribal Burial Grounds.
