Obituary

Robert E. "Pots" O'Neill, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, passed into eternal life on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a lengthy illness. He was 69 years old.

Pots was born at home in Charlestown on February 19, 1943, a son of the late Leonard O'Neill and Helena G. (Sullivan) O'Neill. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. He recieved his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Suffolk University in Boston. Pots worked as a Auditor for the Internal Revenue Service for more than 25 years. Pots along with his wife Gail dedicated themselves to the caring of their son Robert whom they were always so proud to push around Charlestown in his wheelchair. Pots was the Treasurer for Special Townies and a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association.

Pots is the beloved husband of the late Gail F. (Sullivan) O'Neill. He is the devoted father of Robert W. O'Neill and Phillip E. O'Neill. He is the beloved brother of Helen Jacobs of Dorchester and the late Ann Duncan, Christine McCarthy, Mary O'Neill, Jean Reilly and Leonard O'Neill. He is also the loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service for Pots on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10 a.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum in Malden. Visiting hours Friday, November 23, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
