William G. Fish, Jr., age 64, died on November 18, 2012 surrounded by his loving wife and family at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.
He was born September 15, 1948, the son of William G. and Agnes L. (Lathrop) Fish. He was a direct descendant of John Fish who settled in Mystic in 1654, and with his son Samuel acquired the property which remains in the family today. Bill attended Mystic Academy, Fitch Senior High School and had degrees from Northeastern University (Engineering) and from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Computer Science).
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Barravecchia, his sister and husband, Elizabeth and Bill Foster, sister’s brother-in-law, Carl Strand, Jr., wife’s brother and sister, Frank and Ursula Barravecchia. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Priscilla Strand and Marjorie Robinson. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews including, Helen McDonnell, Carl Strand III, Bill and Mark Foster, Sarah Paul, Sharon Rohe, Dan and Jon Robinson, Jonathan and Benjamin Marks, and Haley Barravecchia.
Bill worked for the Navy Underwater Sound Laboratory and Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London and later for Analysis & Technology and ETC. Bill possessed a keen intellect and enjoyed mathematics and astronomy. Many of his most cherished hours were helping his family.
He served on the Elm Grove Cemetery Board of Trustees for many years, was President of the Fish Cemetery Association and was Secretary of the Lower Mystic Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at the Union Baptists Church, Mystic, CT on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 11:00 am. A private burial will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation, 7151 N. Main Street, Suite 2, Clarkson, MI 48346, the Mystic Seaport Morgan Restoration or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
