Obituary

George Fredrick Hoyt, 81, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Nevins Home after a lengthy illness. He was born March 28, 1931, in Framingham, MA, the son of Thomas Elliot and Margaret (McKenzie) Hoyt.

Mr. Hoyt was a career soldier with the U.S. Army, and retired with more than 20 years service. He served in the Vietnam war, and also served two tours in Korea, a tour in Germany, Japan, and Alaska. Among his awards are the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal, 2 Overseas Bars, Good Conduct Medal, and expert Rifle Badge.

He was predeceased by his brother Thomas J. Hoyt, and is survived by his sisters, Gemma Stolarz, wife of the late Walter Stolarz of Methuen, MA, and Patricia Phillips and her husband Ralph of Iowa, as well as a brother, James Hoyt and his wife Bobbie of Florida. Other family members include many nieces and nephews. After retiring from the Army, Mr. Hoyt was employed by Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH for many years. He had also been employed at the La Quinta Hotel in Andover, MA. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at Rockingham Park and Seabrook Dog Track.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Monica's Church, 212 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lawrence, MA. Family and friends may call on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA.
