Obituary

Boylston - Herbert C. Johnson, 78, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha H. (Haynes) Johnson; two sons, Steven L. Johnson and his wife Carolyn and Bruce A. Johnson; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren (and one on the way); sister-in-law, Nancy A. (Haynes) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters, Debbie A. Johnson (d. 1991) and Sonja J. Collins (d. 2012) as well as his siblings, Robert C., Albert C., and Helen V. Stewart.

Herbert was born in Worcester, son of Marion (Jeffrey) and Albert C. Johnson, Sr. He graduated from Commerce High School and Wentworth College. Herb retired from Morgan Construction Company. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Boylston and was proud to be one of the first Eagle Scouts in town. He was a member of Boylston Lodge A.F. & A.M., past Lieutenant and EMT for the Boylston Fire Dept. and part-time Boylston Police Officer. He was an avid football fan and enjoyed being a referee for both Pop Warner and high school football.

Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, from 4-7 pm Thursday, Nov. 15. The funeral service will be held at Nordgren's at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
