Umstead, Darryl, 67 of Byram Township, NJ formerly of Carlstadt and Westfield, NJ, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his beloved wife Joanne, after a long illness on Sunday, November 11 2012. He is survived by his son Douglas Umstead, his grandchildren, Ryan, Samantha, Jesse and Brandon, his sisters, Lois Frank and Judy Dombroski and many nieces and nephews as well as his father-in-law, James Platt and brother-in-law William Platt. Darryl was predeceased by his parents, Genevieve and Harry Umstead and his mother-in-law, Marie Platt.
He was in the printing business as a pressman for Local One, Amalgamated Lithographers of America. He was employed for 37 years until his health forced an early retirement. He worked at many shops including Meehan Tooker, Lasky and Sandy Alexander. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening. During his years of retirement, Darryl enjoyed many cruises with his wife and met many long lasting friends while on board. Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Thursday 7-9 PM and Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 AM Saturday at St. Joseph’s RC Church, East Rutherford, NJ. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
