Obituary

Anastasia Gnot, 97, of Willis Drive, Cumberland, formerly of Chestnut St., Manville died Monday at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island in Providence. She was the wife of the late Stephen Gnot.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Makal and Anna (Shewchuck) Sowiecki. She resided in Manville for most of her life and lived in Cumberland for the past 22 years.
Mrs. Gnot was a graduate of Woonsocket High School and Hill Business College. She was employed as the secretary to the superintendent of the Manville Jenckes Mill. She later worked for Scotts Jewelry and Cerel’s Jewelers at the Lincoln Mall.
Anastasia was active with the CYO in Manville and with the Parent Teacher Association in the Lincoln school system
Anastasia was talented in sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery. She was noted for her culinary skills and was adept at cards and bridge.
Anastasia was a loving and devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by two daughters Barbara Sheehan, and her husband Thomas, of Naples, FL., and Carole Peckham, and her husband Kenneth, of Cumberland. She was the sister of the late Walter Sowiecki. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kelly Salema of NH and Kevin Sheehan of GA, 5 great-grandchildren, and her niece Patricia Chausse of Manville.
Her funeral will be Thursday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 71 Central St., Manville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St., Manville. Burial will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Thursday morning from 9:00-9:45 am, prior to Mass, at the funeral home.
