Obituary

Inez Harper Purvis Whitley, 97, of Irwin County, died November 13, 2012 at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P. M., Thursday, November 15, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with the Rev. George C. Paulk officiating. Interment will follow in the Springhill Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mrs. Whitley was born December 4, 1914 in Irwin County to the late Dawson and Rebecca McDonald Harper. She lived in the community all of her life. During WWII she worked at the Savannah bomb plant making bomb components and she was a former employee of Lowell Packing Company and Modern Fibers in Fitzgerald, Georgia. She was a member of Riverbend Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Osceola Chapter 431 Order of the Eastern Star

She is survived by her son: Herman Purvis & Mae Ruth of Ocilla; grandchildren: Herman Purvis, Jr., Brad & Deanne Purvis of Ocilla; four great-grandchildren: Chance Purvis, Eli Purvis of Ocilla, Travis & Beth Purvis of Lax and Liz & Richard Cary of Athens; daughter-in-law: Bonnie P. & Joe Nobles of Ocilla. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands: Otis Purvis and Malcolm Whitley and a grandson: Derwin Purvis.
