Obituary

Woods, William H., Ret. BFD, of Quincy, age 89, passed away November 11, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved husband of Mary T. (Kane) Woods of Quincy. Loving father of William H. Woods, III and his late wife Eileen of Franklin, Joseph P. Woods and his wife Margaret of Holbrook, Gerard Woods and his wife Patricia of Braintree, Mary Lou Bryan and her late husband Robert of Quincy, Carol Ann Abruzzese of Braintree, Paul Woods of Weymouth, Donna Johnston and her husband Patrick of Hingham, and Edward Woods of Quincy. Brother of the late Robert & Joseph Woods, and Mary Barry. Grandfather of 14 grandchildren including the late PJ Abruzzese. Also survived by 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

William grew up in So. Boston, lived in Brighton and spent the last 42 years in Quincy. He graduated from the High School of Commerce in 1941. He then served his country during World War II as a Signalman for the US Navy and took part in the United States landing at Normandy, France. William’s family was the focal point of his life and he enjoyed every minute of them. A perfect day was a nap on the beach, a walk around Castle Island and taking care of his home, which he had great pride in. He loved his job as a firefighter (Engine 39) for the Boston Fire Department and wished he could stay longer than his retirement date in 1988. He spent the last few years, prior to retirement, as a driver for the Fire Department Chaplain. William was the life of the party, had a great sense of humor and told countless stories to his friends and family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday from 9:00 - 10:30 AM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
