Obituary

Millbury – Richard F. Roy, 63, of Millbury and a longtime Worcester resident died on Sunday, November 11th in his home while surrounded by his family.

Mr. Roy leaves his wife of 41 years, Patricia M. (Degon) Roy; his four children, Richard F. Roy and his wife Gina of Dudley, Wendy A. Moran and her husband Mathew of Holden, Renee M. Zukowski and her husband Christopher of Charlton and Matthew P. Roy and his wife Jennifer of Worcester; his nine grandchildren, Daniel, Aaron and Hannah Roy; Colin and Ava Moran; Cole and Evan Zukowski and Lucas and Travis Roy; two brothers, Rev. Michael J. Roy, Pastor of St. Roch’s Church in Oxford and Jack R. Roy of Worcester and many nephews and nieces.

Richie was born in Worcester, son of the late Frank J. and Marguerite A. (Rushford) Roy and is also predeceased by a brother Paul D. Roy who died in 2009. He served in the United States Army and is a graduate of both Saint Peter’s High School and Worcester Junior College.

Mr. Roy spent his entire work career with the telephone company and retired from Verizon as a Service Splice Technician in 2008 after 36 years of service. Along with working for Verizon, Richie and several of his co-workers raised money at Christmas time and delivered toys to the boys of the Nazareth Home in Leicester for many years.

He was a proud member of the IBEW Local 2325, and served as it’s steward for a number of years. Richie was the recipient of the St. Leo Award, for his dedication to educating area high school students about the history and the importance of unions in the workplace.

Mr. Roy did many things for enjoyment throughout his lifetime, such as hiking and kayaking. However, Richie was the happiest when he was spending time with his wife, children and his grandchildren, they were of the greatest importance to him.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 14th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church 1222 Main St. Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, November 13th from 5 to 8 in the funeral home.
