Obituary


Alvin S. Griffin, 83, of Ben Hill County, Georgia died Saturday, November 10, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Land, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Mr. Griffin was born April 19, 1929 in Ben Hill County, Georgia to the late John Spence Griffin and May Bell Griffin. He was a farmer and had lived in the community all of his life where he was named 1981 Ben Hill County Farmer of the Year. He was a School Bus driver for the Ben Hill County Board of Education for over 17 years. He was the projectionist for the Grand Theater and the Fitzgerald Drive- In Theater during the 1960’s and 1970’s. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church where he was in charge of the ushers for many years. He went on John Deere trips to Waterloo, Iowa and helped by entertaining the groups and he enjoyed dancing.

Mr. Griffin is survived by: Two daughters: Barbara (Byron) Mobley of Fitzgerald, and Frances Wall of Fernandina Beach, Florida; Special Friend, Alice Gibbs. Grandchildren: Elaine Bowen, Sabrina (Jay) Robertson, Stephanie (Christian) McCrocklin, Renee (Shawn) Nabywaniec, Dale Mobley and Duane (Tina) Mobley; great grandchildren: Ruthie Mobley, Kyle Nabywaniec, Hunter McCrocklin, Brittany Bowen, Griffin Moses and Taylor Robertson; sister, Louise Fowler and brother, Willis Griffin. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Marie Williamson Griffin, son-in-law, Ed Wall, brothers Herman, Robert, Floyd, Henry; sisters Eunice Kitchens and Beulah Foster.
