Obituary

Dr. John A. Tighe, 81, or Punta Gorda, FL and formerly of Stonington, CT died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL. He was born June 2, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY to John A. Tighe, who died in 1984 and Christine B. Tighe who died in 1998. He was a graduate of Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY and was head master of Alpha Omega Pi Fraternity there. He went to college in New York where he initially studied art and then deciding to become a physician went to medical school in Lausanne, Switzerland where he graduated in 1957. After completion of medical school, he returned to New York where he did his internship and residency in radiology at the Long Island College Hospital.He left New York and began practice as an independent Radiologist in New London, CT. He maintained his practice for over 30 years there as well as serving as a consultant in Radiology at the Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island, and the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London and at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, CT.He was a member of the Porsche Club of America for over 25 years, a member of the American Medical Association and a member of the Port Charlotte Yacht Club. He spoke fluent French, loved animals and cruises, had a lifelong passion for fast cars and all kinds of music as long as it was jazz!He is survived by his two ex-wives, Denise Mayland Tighe who resides in Mineral Wells, Texas and Peggy Tighe Eskut-Gutzweiller who resides in North Carolina and his cat Pops.Visitation will be Thursday, June 24, 2004 from 5-7pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, historic downtown Mystic. A graveside service will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic on Friday, June 25, at 11:00am.
