Obituary

Kathryn “Kay” (Adams) Payton of Bridgewater formerly of Brockton, wife of the late David F. Payton, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Brockton, daughter of the late W. Everett Adams and the late Alice C. (Reardon) Adams, she was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1944. She served on the Reunion Committee for every class reunion.
Prior to her marriage, she worked for the Army Engineers in Boston, Standard Modern Printing Co. and W. B. Mason Co. After raising her children, she went to work as a Clerk Typist for the City Council in the City of Brockton Clerk’s Office. She retired as Assistant City Clerk in 1991. She and her husband moved to High Pond Estates in Bridgewater in 1996.
She was a member of St. John’s Women’s Catholic Club, Twentieth Century Catholic Club, High Pond Resident’s Association in Bridgewater and the Dinner Divas. She attended St. John’s Church in East Bridgewater and Our Lady of Lourdes Church while living in Brockton. Her main interest was in people. “The Best Antiques are Old Friends.” She kept in touch with many friends with her computer, as well as by letter and telephone.
She is survived by her children Robert M. Payton and wife Kathy of Brockton, William J. Payton of Raynham, Jane F. Marochino and husband Frank of Bridgewater and West Dennis, and Kathleen M. Payton and wife Joanne Sauve of Gloucester, six grandchildren, Erin Kruse and husband Joseph of Worcester, David P. Payton and wife Dararat of Phoenix, Emily Payton of Miami, Andrea Doyon and husband Michael of Bridgewater, Christopher Payton and wife Stephanie of Bridgewater, and Daniel Payton of Raynham, six great-grandchildren. She leaves her sister Mary Clancy and husband Jim of West Barnstable, and her sister-in-law Josephine Adams of Brockton. She also leaves her special cousin Anne Thompson and many other cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Regina M. Cunningham, and brother Paul Adams.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123)Brockton Tuesday 4-8 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:45 am for a funeral Mass in St. John Church, East Bridgewater at 9 am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Kay's wish is that you do something kind for someone in need.
