Helen (Batsakis) Varitimos, 87, of Methuen, Massachusetts passed away on Wednesday, November 7th, 2012 at the Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton, MA. Born in Dracut, second oldest of her three brothers; James, Arthur and Peter. She was a 1943 graduate of Dracut High School and a graduate of McIntosh School of Business in Lawrence, Ma. She retired from Afpro in Bedford, MA as a Secretary and Stenographer in 1985.
Helen was a practicing Christian who seldom saw, spoke or heard evil. She sang in the church choir as at the young age of 16 till present dates. Helen was a 50 year member of the Philoptochos Society in Andover and the Daughters of Penelope the Lawrence Chapter.
Helen enjoyed bingo with her friends, listening to music; including classical from morning to dusk. Then television would take over after supper, as a rule. Her favorite show was "Wheel of Fortune", and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
She had an extensive collection of cook books, baking recipes; trying new approaches to better results. "Yia Yia" loved her family and grandchildren with a passion. No greater joy! She cooked for all the holidays.
She was a lifetime of being fashionably attired, adorned with her accents of jewelry and always her painted and manicured fingernails. She had an impeccable presence. According to her family she loved Christmas and was as excited as a little child each year when it came time to set up the Christmas Tree. Helen was known for having the "Biggest Heart."
She leaves her husband Nicholas "Nick" of 53 years, her son Christos and Mary Varitimos of Lawrence, Maria Nightingale of Methuen, her brother Peter and his wife Val Batsakis of Dracut; as well as several nephews and special niece Nikki Ayotte and her grandchildren; Charelle, Tayla, Kaileigh, Tiana, Brett, Christin and Savvas.

Her funeral liturgy will take place on Saturday, November 10th, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. in Sts. Constantine and Helen Church, 73 Chandler Road, Andover, Massachusetts. The family request that everyone meet directly at the Church on Saturday morning. The burial will take place in the Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
