Obituary

SOUTH DARTMOUTH -- Barbara Boyden "Sid" Ferguson died Monday, May 17, 2004, at home. She was the widow of Robert W. Ferguson Jr.

Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Walter M. Boyden and Mary Browne Boyden of Washington, D.C. She was a longtime resident of Padanaram.

Tutored at home, she excelled academically. She served in the Navy during World War II as a pharmacist mate first class. She enrolled in the one-year Radcliffe Management Training Program in Cambridge, graduating in 1947.

Mrs. Ferguson was an administrator for the Red Cross, Jacksonville, Fla.; Kent School for Girls, Kent, Conn.; Wykeham Rise School, Washington, Conn., as assistant to the headmaster; Berkshire School, Sheffield; First National Bank of New Bedford as head of personnel; and Munchkins, Providence.

She volunteered for the Junior League and various hospitals in Jacksonville in the 1950s, and the Fresh Air Fund, Big Sister Association, Council on Aging, Coastline Elderly (as a member of the board of directors) and Cushman Elementary School.

Survivors include her sister, Jesseca D. Boyden of Cross River, N.Y.; a brother, Walter M. Boyden Jr. of Alexandria, Va; three children, Jesseca D. Ferguson of Boston, Catherine Ferguson Locatis of Edisto Island, S.C., and Robert W. Ferguson III of Padanaram; two grandchildren, Giles and Abigail Locatis of Edisto Island.

Her memorial service is private.
