TAUNTON - Victor A. Tavares, a Taunton resident for the past nine years, died at his home on November 5, 2012 at the age of 81.
He was the husband of the late Etelvina (Dias) Tavares, to whom he was married for sixty years.
Born, raised and educated in Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose Caetano Amaral Tavares and Maria Angelina Amaral Tavares.
He moved to the U.S. in 1975 and resided in Cambridge for many years before relocating to the Taunton area.
Employed as a machine operator by the Barry Wright Corporation for many years, he was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Anthony Church in Cambridge, and was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Taunton.
An avid Benfica fan, Mr. Tavares enjoyed playing and coaching soccer in his younger years, and enjoyed listening to the radio, fishing and spending quality time with his family.
Survivors include four sons, Jose Manuel Amaral Tavares of Somerville, Mario Jorge Amaral Tavares of Taunton, Emanuel Amaral Tavares of Everett, and Victor Dias Amaral Tavares of Taunton; two daughters, Zelia Maria Amaral Tavares of Taunton and Ana Paula Silva of Everett; a brother, Jose Pedro Amaral of Malden; a sister, Liliana Amaral Sousa; twenty grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Fatima Amaral Tavares and the brother of the late Otilia Camara and Lucia Amaral.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday Nov. 9th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
