Maria (Faria) Vasques,83, passed away June 12, 2004 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of Marcelino Vasques of New Bedford. She was the beloved mother of Rui F. Vasques, husband of Noelia, of New Bedford, Jorge Vasques, husband of Gail, of New Bedford, Maria Manuela, wife of Armando Palhota, of Fairhaven, Maria A. Vasques of New Bedford, Carlos Vasques, husband of Gabrial, of Acushnet, Lucia Brum of New Bedford, Antonio P. Vasques husband of Elisabete, of Fairhaven, Paul J. Vasques , husband of Theresa, of Somerset, Kathleen A. Lopez of New Bedford, John Vasques, husband of Rose of Dartmouth, Manuel Vasques, husband of Ida of Lawrence, MA, the late Jose Antonio Vasques and the late Baby Girl Vasques. She was the sister of Celestino Faria of Rhode Island, Manuel Faria of Fayal, Azores, Ana Faria of Fayal, Azores, and the late Francisco and the late Jose Faria. She was also survived by her 24 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren.
Mrs. Vasques was born in Fayal, Azores, daughter of the late Francisco Faria and Ana (da Gloria). She lived in this area since 1960. She Loved being a Homemaker, loved baking, sewing, gardening, and spending quality time with her family, and especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a very giving person especially her baked goods, and she was very attentive to people.
Her Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church @ 9:00 A.M.. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Family and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held Monday, June 14, 2004 from 5:00 - 9:00 P.M.. Flowers are welcome and/or donations can be made to the Heart Association and/or The Alzheimer's Foundation.
