Obituary

Edward Gaj, 90, of Fairhaven died Tuesday October 30, 2012 suddenly at home. He was the husband of Blanche (Masson) Gaj.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Frank and Karolina (Hop) Gaj, he lived in New Bedford and Fairhaven for most of his life.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

Mr. Gaj was formerly employed as a machinist at Continental Elastic Company and Scovill Manufacturing for many years.

He was an avid bowler and gardener, and loved the outdoors. He was a tinkerer, always finding things to do.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Edward Gaj, Jr., and his wife Patricia of Andover, Carolyn Cooper and her husband Ken of Westport, and Michael Gaj and his companion Sandy Pontbriand of Fairhaven; three brothers, Stanley Gaj, Walter Gaj and Mitchell Gaj, all of New Bedford; a sister, Jennie Peltz of New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Maureen, Kerry, and Evan Gaj, Ashley and Haylee Cooper; and nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Joseph Gaj.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Perpetual Help Church, New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4-7 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Route 6, Mattapoisett.
