Eileen M. Sapienza, age 67, of Billerica formerly of Woburn passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 30th at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. She was the beloved wife of Edmund B. Sapienza and together they shared 46 years of marriage. Born in Woburn on August 20, 1945, she was one of five children of the late Martin J. and Mary L. (Burke) Wells.
Eileen was a member of the 1963 graduating class of Woburn High School. As a young lady Eileen volunteered for a number of years as a candy striper at the former Choate Hospital. Eileen also worked for 28 years in the Telecommunications Dept. at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center where served as a supervisor within the department. Eileen was a person of strong faith and was very active with the Lahey Clinic Ministry and would attend daily services at the hospital chapel. Eileen's greatest joy was being a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and once the grandchildren came she cherished every moment she had with them.
In addition to her beloved husband, Eileen is survived by her children, Christine A. Hoover and her husband Timothy of Utah, Jennifer Zourdos and her husband George of Indiana, Stephen Sapienza and his wife Aimee of Utah. She was the loving grandmother of Nikolas Zourdos, Zachary and Sam Sapienza. Sister of Joseph Wells and his wife Jacquelyn, Michael Wells and his wife Marcia, Judith Callanan and her husband Philip, all of Woburn. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Along with her late parents, Eileen is predeceased by her son, the late Michael G. Sapienza, and a sister, the late Sheila Edmonds.
Funeral services will be held from the from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Saturday, at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Irene Church, 181 East St., Carlisle, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Friday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Eileen's memory to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, 607 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
