Obituary

METHUEN – Sr. Jacqueline Gagnon, 89 passed away Tuesday October 30, 2012 at the Residence Saint Claire of the Presentation of Mary in Methuen, MA.

Sr. Jacqueline, also known as Sr. Rita de la Passion, was the daughter of the late Emile and Victoria ( Lemieux) Gagnon and was born in St. Malo, Canada in 1923. The family moved to Berlin, NH when Sr. was a child. Sr. Jacqueline attended elementary and secondary schools in Berlin, which were staffed by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Rivier College in Nashua, NH.

In 1945 she professed her religious vows of poverty, chastity and obedience as a Sister of the Presentation of Mary. For approximately 40 years she served her Congregation in Maine and Massachusetts as an elementary school teacher, primarily teaching kindergarten and first grade. In 1984 she became a nurse’s aide for the sick and elderly sisters; due to failing health in 2009 she was transferred to the Residence St. Claire Infirmary as a resident.

Besides her Sisters in the Congregation, she also leaves two sisters, Mona Gagnon of Epsom, NH and Lise Malia of Berlin, NH, as well as several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m and 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at the Residence Saint Claire of the Presentation of Mary 209 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 2:30p.m. in the Presentation of Mary Chapel with burial to follow in the Presentation of Mary Academy. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., Methuen, MA.
