WORCESTER: Donald F. Ekross, 85, formerly of North Grafton, died peacefully in his home on Monday, October 29, 2012.
He leaves his wife of 43 years, Nancy E. (Palmer) Ekross; two daughters, Sharon F. Russell of West Palm Beach, FL, Amy E. Quigley and her husband Brad of Belmont; a son, William C. Ekross of North Grafton; four grandchildren, John Russell, Joseph, Laura and Robert Ekross; and several cousins. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Carl P. and Frances R. (Vegnone) Ekross. He was raised in North Grafton and was a Navy Veteran serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He lived in Worcester most of his life.
Donald was a serviceman for NSTAR, formerly Commonwealth Gas, where he worked for 44 years until retiring. He was a member of the Greendale Retired Men’s Club and the Seven Hills Wheelmen. He was an avid bicycle rider and a participant in the Pan-Mass Challenge. He was also involved in an annual fundraising bicycle event in support of diabetes, where he rode for 560 miles over 6 days throughout ME, NH and VT.
After cremation, MEMORIAL CALLING HOURS with Donald’s ashes will be held from 10:30 A.M. to 12 NOON on MONDAY, NOV. 5 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St., followed by a MEMORIAL SERVICE at 12 NOON, in the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. John’s Cemetery.
