Obituary

Aime F. Martel, 84, of 46 High St. died Thursday, October 18, 2001 in the St. Francis Home after a period of failing health. He was born in Belmont NH on September 12, 1917, the son of Louis and Josephine (Bilodeau) Martel and was a lifelong area resident.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and was involved in the European theater with the motor pool of the 26th Infantry. He was employed as a mechanic at the former Pyn’s Garage and the Stafford Buick Garage.

Mr. Martel was a firefighter in the Laconia Fire Department and also was involved with the maintenance of the apparatus. He transferred to the Laconia Public Works Dept., where he was employed as a mechanic until his retirement in 1982.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart parish. He held membership in the Wilkins-Smith American Legion Post #1 and the VFW Post 1670, both of Laconia. 

Members of the family include his wife, Rachel (Guyer) Martel of Laconia; a daughter, Luanne Kabachis of Laconia; five sons, Richard Martel, Kenneth F. Martel, Patrick Martel, Roger L. Martel and Robert H. Martel, all of Laconia; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Ida Decormier of Laconia;  nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a grandson, Jeffrey Martel in 1990.

Calling hours were in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St. on Sunday from 1 to 4 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave on Monday at Noon. Rev. Adrien Longchamps, Pastor officiated. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Timothy C. Molan and David L. Furber were the Funeral Directors.
