Obituary

Sr. Loretta Giroux, CSC (Sr. Mary Magdala), 105, of the Sisters of Holy Cross, Manchester died October 26, 2012.
She was born in Holyoke, MA on September 12, 1907 to Joseph and Lydia (Yenlan) Giroux. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1933 and made her final profession in 1940. She served the congregation for 79 years.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and a master’s degree in Library Science from Rosary College in River Forest, IL. She also earned a certificate to teach in elementary and secondary schools in the Province of Quebec and a certificate to teach vocal music in the Province of Ontario.
Sr. Loretta taught in parochial elementary and high schools in Quebec at L’Abord-a-Plouffe and St. Laurent; in Ontario at Lafontaine and Penetanguishene; in Massachusetts at Adams, New Bedford and Springfield; and in New Hampshire at Nashua and Manchester. She also was a teacher and librarian at Notre Dame College in Manchester for 21 years.
She retired to St. George Manor in Manchester in 1991 where she served as librarian past the age of 100.
Sr. Loretta will be remembered for her great love of Holy Cross and her dedication to Catholic education.
The family includes a godchild, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at St. George Manor, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester. Burial was in St. Augustin Cemetery, Manchester.
