Alejandra “Alex” Islas, 14, of Prosser, died tragically with her mother, Ilda Islas, on Saturday, October 20, 2012 in a car accident near Mabton while traveling home after winning the varsity high school soccer game in Toppenish.
Alejandra was born in Prosser on August 15, 1998 to Francisco and Ilda (Mendoza) Islas. She was raised and educated in Grandview and Prosser and was currently a freshman at Prosser High School. Alex loved soccer and also played basketball and volleyball in school. She was looking forward to and busy preparing for her Quinceanera. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Alex is survived by her father, Francisco Islas; her sister, Isabel Islas and her brother, Francisco Islas Jr. all of Prosser; her half-sister, Christina Alaniz of Grandview; grandparents, Maria Mendoza of Prosser and Elvira Perez of Mexico; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Salvador Mendoza and Salvador Islas.
Recitation of the Rosary for Alejandra and Ilda will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the church and a luncheon will follow. A private family inurnment will be held at the Prosser Cemetery.
