Emogene Yancey Giddens, 79, of Tifton died Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Dillard Ensley and Rev. Smith Gentry will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Earl Giddens, James Giddens, Randy Ogletree, Danny Ogletree, Keith Harris, Johnny Tawzer, James Montgomery and Matt Liles will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 26, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Giddens was born on May 27, 1933 in Tifton and was the daughter of Leonard Floyd Yancey and Lola Belle Worley Yancey, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ernest Giddens, who died on October 25, 2011; one son, Emory Giddens; two brothers, Harold Yancey and Ivan Yancey; one sister, Willie Belle Ogletree; and two grandsons, Brian Guess and Brent Guess. She was the retired owner of Giddens Grocery and Market and a member of Wayside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Giddens is survived by one son and two daughters-in-law, Eugene and Peggy Giddens of Lakeland, Florida; and Sheri Giddens of Moultrie; one daughter, Elaine Giddens (her baby) of Tallahassee, Florida; one brother, Herman Yancey of Moultrie; one sister, Barbara Sumner of Tifton; three grandchildren and their spouses, Eugene Jr. and Zoe Giddens, Eric and Becky Giddens and Amy Demore; five great-grandchildren, Harry Giddens, Kate Giddens, Alice Giddens, Ella Demore and Asa Giddens; special friends, Harold and Maggie Tawzer, Lynn Schwekendiek; and many nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly.
