Obituary

WEST GLOUCESTER: Eleanore J. (Dort) Garland, 81, died early Monday morning, October 22, 2012, in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness. She was the wife of LeRoy H. “Roy” Garland.
Born in Ipswich on July 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Archibald W. and Joan D. (Scourletis) Dort. She was a graduate of the Ipswich High School.
She had been employed for many years at the family restaurant, the former Archie’s in the Magnolia Square. She and Roy met when, as a Gloucester Firefighter, he responded to a fire at the restaurant.
She was devoted to caring for her husband and home. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking, baking and shopping. She also had a great affection for animals of all types and sizes.
In addition to her husband of sixty years, she is survived by her brother and two sisters-in-law, Charles and Mary Dort of Ipswich, Esther Garland of FL; and dear friends, Earle and June Greenwood and William and Gloria Newman; and among many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, she leaves a special niece, Darlene Harding and her family. She was also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Richard H. and Rosalie L. “Sally” (Danjou) Dort, and brother-in-law, Norman M. Garland, Jr.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 4 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 2 – 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
