Evans, GA.-Mattie Mae Mincey Kirkland went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 21, 2012. Mattie was the beloved wife of the late Arrie Kirkland, the love of her life. Mattie was dedicated to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and to the service of her Lord.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Platt’s Belair Rd. Chapel with Dr. Tommy A. Henschel officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mattie was a proud retiree of Sears Roebuck and Company where she made many good friends while working in the Credit Department. She was an active member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church for more than 60 years and taught 5th grade Sunday school for 50 years. It was her desire to be remembered for her love of Jesus Christ and always strived to let others see Him in the way she lived.
She is survived by her son Jerry (Mary) Kirkland of Martinez, GA; her two daughters, Patsy (Jimmy) Cooper of Evans, GA and Caroline (Tommy) Henschel of Columbus, GA; her baby sister, Rebecca Griffis and a friend as dear as a daughter, Bertha (the late Grady) Thomas. She leaves thirteen grandchildren, Tara (Shishir) Chokshi, Amy (Nate) Baker, Dana (Greg) Brady, Philip (Joy) Henschel, Hallie (Jim) Trainor, Tricia (Todd) Mitchell, Scott Moon, Ginger (Michael) Davis, Lindsey (Kristie) Reville, Mickey (Beth) Reville, Benji (Shanon) Rentz, Allen Rentz, Gina (Mike) King and twenty five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abram and Minnie Mincey; sisters, Bertie Brown, Tisher Suddeth, Anna Salzman and brother, Earl Mincey. Mattie was a loving, kind and compassionate person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the kind caregivers at Westwood Extended Care Facility and Care South Hospice for the wonderful care our mother was given over the past several months and also Dr. Robert West for the many years of respectful, kind, and compassionate care he gave.
Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Kirkland’s grandsons and grandsons in law, Philip Henschel, Shishir Chokshi, Nate Baker, Greg Brady, Todd Mitchell, Jim Trainor, Scott Moon and Michael Davis.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 1:00 PM until service time.
