Robert H. Wood, age 84, of Brockton, died October 20, 2012. He was the loving husband for 59 years of Barbara (Gadsby) Wood. Born and raised in Boston, he was the son of the late Clarence A. and Alice (Eichwald) Wood. A Veteran of WWII, Robert served in the Navy and was stationed on the USS Henderson and USS Orleck. During his time in the service his vessel was sent to the South Pole. For many years he had been employed by the MBTA in Boston, and had also been employed as a Warehouse Manager at Tech Hi Fi. He enjoyed watching sports and old movies, especially John Wayne movies.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Alan Wood and his fiancee Iris Crespo of Chicopee, Beverly Wood of Brockton, Donna Wood of Woonsocket, RI, Paul Wood and his wife Charlene of Middleboro, Robert J. Wood of Taunton, Gary Wood and his wife Lori of Carver and Barbara Rice and her husband David, Sr. of Brockton; 17 grandchildren, five great grandchildren; a sister Claire Smith of Marshfield and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Walter, Richard and Dennis Wood, and brother of the late Walter, Francis and Lorraine Wood.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Wednesday 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Thursday at 8:30am for a funeral mass in St. Ann’s Church, West Bridgewater at 9:30am. Burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
