Ursula Traenkle died peacefully at the Newfield House on October 16th. She is survived by her daughter Inghilt Traenkle of Plymouth and her granddaughter Keldra Krick of Newton. She was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1913 and married Carl August Traenkle in 1938. The couple had two daughters. In 1949, after WWII, the family came to the United States to settle in Dayton, Ohio, home of Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Wright Field, where Carl Traenkle and other German scientists did basic research for the U.S. Air Force. Always hoping to one day return to their native country, Ursula and her husband moved back to Germany in 1963 where Carl established the Institute for Air and Space Travel at the Technical University of Munich. Having grown up meanwhile, their two daughters decided to stay here. Inghilt arrived in Plymouth in 1965 as the bride of the Rev. Gerald K. Krick of First Parish Church, while Urda, the younger one, became a lab technician at Harvard Medical School where in 1968 a chemical explosion claimed her life.
After the death of her husband in 1996, Ursula returned to the U.S to spend the remaining years in Plymouth with her daughter Inghilt. Ursula was first and foremost a homemaker. As such, she watched caringly over her two daughters and later her granddaughter. She passed down to them her passion for the great outdoors and her artistic sensibilities manifested in her love for creating with her hands, be it sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidering or doing arts and crafts with her granddaughter. Going to Plymouth’s Farmers Market with her daughter was always a delight for her. She especially enjoying watching the little children and their antics and always appreciated the samples that various venders generously brought to her. She will be missed by many for her mischievous, fun loving ways.
Burial will be private. Arrangements made by the Richard Davis Funeral Homes of Plymouth and Manomet.
