Herbert Woodward, age 73, of North Easton, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully October 14, 2012, with his wife and family at his side, at Good Samaritan Medical Center following a brief illness. Herb loved and was loved by his wife of 48 years, Kathy (Bettini) Woodward. Born in Brockton, April 12, 1939, Herb was the son of the late Herbert and Lucy (Darney) Woodward. He was raised in West Bridgewater and graduated from West Bridgewater High School in 1957. He joined the Army in 1961 and served in Italy until 1964. He returned home where he was the proprietor of Woodward’s Auto Spring Shop of Brockton and New Bedford for the remainder of his life. Herb resided in Easton for the past 34 years. He also spent summers at his home in Dennisport for the past 27 years. He was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed the Patriots, Bruins, Red Sox and Celtics. He also enjoyed time spent in St. Maarten, Foxwoods and in his garden. He loved to feed and watch wild birds.
He loved and was loved by his children Herb, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Middleboro, Mark and his wife Stephanie of West Bridgewater, Scott of Easton and his former wife Nicole of Taunton, and Laura Hirtle and her husband Craig of Brockton. He leaves eight grandchildren, Luke, Ethan, Mark, Jr., Alex, Logan, Dylan, Alison and Abby. He was the devoted son-in law of Laura Bettini of Vicenza, Italy; brother in law of Luciana Schriver, Adriano Bettini, Mario Bettini, Alan Schriver, and Germana Bettini. He also leaves many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was the son in law of the late Guerrino Bettini and brother in law of the late Paola Bettini.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Thursday 4-8pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 9am for a funeral mass in Immaculate Conception Church, North Easton at 10am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery.
