Obituary

Honey Weiss, age 84, of Plymouth, died Friday October 12th at Jordan Hospital. She leaves a loving husband Bob, of 64 years, three sons Scott, John and Andy, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She has had a profound positive impact on this community and in 2011 received the President’s Voluntary Service Award presented by Mayflower RSVP.

Honey grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Penn State University. She and Bob moved to Plymouth in 1970 where she taught Kindergarten for the next 30 plus years. Her remarkable list of volunteer efforts never lessened and until the day of her death, she was hard at work on the second “A Different Vision” art show to be presented by the Plymouth Guild for the Arts next spring. She was the creative force behind this innovative show where the blind and visually impaired can touch every work: paintings, sculpture or craft. A currant Board member, she was an Art Guild member for 40 years.

Every Monday she was a volunteer at the Plymouth Public Library and was one of the original founders of the new library. Every Wednesday she could be found volunteering at Jordan Hospital and every Thursday Honey could be heard reading the newspaper on TIC, the talking information radio network for the blind.

She was an energetic and dedicated leader in the arts and cultural life of Plymouth and in 2010 received an “ARTY” award from ten Plymouth Cultural Council, as well as a special recognition award from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

She was an avid reader and she and Bob enjoyed extensive travel to Europe and Mexico. Many of the photos she took on those trips have appeared in regional art shows.

She is sorely missed by her loving family and scores of friends, all of whom are welcomed to phone her husband at home. There are no services. Arrangements made by the Richard Davis Funeral Homes of Plymouth and Manomet.
