Sheriff Norman E. Lewis, age 71 of Clarksville, TN, died on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at his residence.
He was born on September 23, 1941 in Harlan County, KY to the late Norman E. Lewis, Sr. and Bessie B. Shelton Lewis. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Carl Franklin Lewis.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Clarksville with Dr. Ted Denny officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Dickson County, TN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 12-7 p.m. with a masonic service to follow, and Friday, October 19, 2012 from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Norman was the current Montgomery County Sheriff. He was with the Tennessee Highway Patrol for 31 1/2 years. He was a member of Queen City Lodge #761, Clarksville Civitan, APSU Governor's Club, the Tennessee Sheriff's Association, and Bethel Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Christine E. Lewis of Clarksville, TN; son, Larry G. Lewis of Cunningham, TN; three daughters, Marnita F. Lewis of Hendersonville, TN, Donna L. Lewis of White House, TN and Barbara E. Lewis of Fairfield, OH; brother, Kenneth S. Lewis of Dickson, TN; sister, Elizabeth English of Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be members of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Tennessee Highway Patrol Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clarence Wall, Bobby Melton, Bill Farmer, Hubert Griffey, Earl McElfresh, Ed Patterson, John Bryant, Steve Jones, Teddy McGovern, and Dan Hulcy.
