Leonard H. Shartle, 68, of Fairhaven died October 10, 2012 unexpectedly at home. He was the husband of Janet C. (Zajac) Shartle.
He was born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Carroll and Doris (Brown) Shartle. He was raised in Columbus, Ohio and lived in New York City and Bristol, RI, before moving to Fairhaven 23 years ago.
Mr. Shartle was the proprietor of Len Shartle Sculpture Studio in New Bedford. He was a graduate of Defiance College and studied at the Arts Student League of New York.
He has exhibited his sculpture internationally and was commissioned by the Town of Bristol, RI, to create the monument "Discovery" at Independence Park.
Survivors include his wife; his beloved daughter, Czarina Shartle of Fairhaven; a brother, Alex Shartle and his wife Nancy of Dayton, Ohio; and many dear relatives and friends.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday, October 15th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, October 14th from 4-7 PM.
