Obituary

Abington – Walter A. Johnson 76, a lifelong resident of Abington, died Wednesday October 10 after a period of failing health.

Born in Boston and raised in Abington he was the son of the late E. Walter and Mildred Johnson and a graduate of Abington High, Class of 1954.

Walter had proudly served in the US Coast Guard from 1954-1958, then transferring to the reserves where he served until 1962.

Before his retirement he had worked several years as an electrical technician for high integrity power control systems, at Russelectric Inc. of Hingham.

He was an avid amateur ham radio operator (WA1EFR), and over the years had communicated with many fellow ham radio operators around the world.

He is survived by his loving sister Nancy Beardsley and her husband Alan of Bedford, MA, his nieces Linda Hurley, Sharon Kailher and Susan Willson and his nephews Steve and Robert O’Connor. He was the brother of the late Doris O’Connor.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday October 16 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10-11 AM.
