Obituary

Athanasia (nee Plastiras) Geanopulos, born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 21, 1920, passed away, peacefully, on October 9, 2012. The consummate wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Athanasia was an incredibly loving, caring, giving person who cared deeply for her family and her many, many friends-- and they for her. To know her was to love her. Many will remember Athanasia (Mrs. G) from Nicky's Grant Street restaurant, in the Grant Building, where she touched so many Pittsburghers over the past 28 years with her smile, her kindness, her bubbly personality, her energy, and her ever-positive outlook on life. Athanasia, with an unwavering faith in God, was an active and devoted member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Predeceasing Athanasia were her loving husband of 45 years, Clifford T.G. Geanopulos, and two of her brothers, Thomas Plaster and Basil Plastiras. Surviving Athanasia are her three sons, Thomas Geanopulos (Elizabeth), Nicholas Geanopulos (Sophia), and Andrew Janis (Sofia); her sister, Sophia Bridoux, and her brother, George Plastiras (Kiki); her six grandchildren, Troy Geanopulos (Annika), Jennifer Takos (Dimitrios), Alisia Leibel (Cody), George Geanopulos, James Janis, and Electra Janis; and her five great grandchildren, Madeline Takos, John Takos, Thomas Geanopulos, Nia Geanopulos, and Mark Geanopulos. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 12, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15220. Trisagion Services at 7 p.m. Visitation (10:30 a.m.) and Funeral services (11:30 a.m.) will be on Saturday, October 13 at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 601 W. McMurray Road, Canonsburg, PA 15317, with a memorial luncheon to immediately follow, at the All Saints Community Center. Burial services will be private, at the Holy Trinity Cemetery. Instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church New Building Fund, 495 Browns Lane, Pittsburgh, PA 15237
