Mr. Henry R. “Hank” Nolette, of Taunton, died Friday, October 5 in Longmeadow of Taunton following a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn (Burgess) Nolette. They were married for 66 years. He was born 88 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Telesphore and Ida (Martin) Nolette. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Taunton Street Department for 22 years. He was previously employed as “Hank the Coffee Man” for the former Burke’s Canteen in Taunton for 30 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as part of “The Armed Guard” aboard the USS Robert Fulton, the USS Tidepenn, and the USS Archbishop Lamy in both the Asiatic-Pacific and European Theatres. He was a member of the David F. Adams Post #611, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a coach and manager of the Tigers in the Taunton East Little League. Hank also umpired for a number of years for several area baseball leagues. He enjoyed camping at Bourne Scenic Park, fishing on Cape Cod Canal, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a communicant of the former St. Jacques Parish in Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 son: Robert H. Nolette and his wife, Carol of North Dighton; 2 daughters: Susan Tirrell and her husband, Mark of Buzzards Bay, and Dianne Medeiros and her husband, James of Sandwich; 6 grandchildren: Michael Nolette, Jill Medeiros, Kerri-Ann Tirrell, Jeffrey Tirrell, Robert J. Nolette and Jay Medeiros; 5 great grandchildren: Bryant Nolette, Riley Leonard, Ty Leonard, Avery Nolette and Addison Leonard, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
At his request, funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the V.A. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. Arrangements are under the direction of The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home of Taunton.
