Obituary

Granby – Byong Won Choe, 78, of Granby and a former resident of Holyoke, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, October 2, 2012. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and wonderful caregivers. He was born in Yong In Goon, South Korea on December 15, 1933, a beloved son of the late Do Choe and Bo Ra Cho. He graduated schools in Yong In Goon and served his country in the South Korean Army during the Korean War. He immigrated to the United States in 1979 and settled in Holyoke before moving to Granby in 1988 where he resided the remainder of his life. He was employed for 15 years as a machine operator at Avery Dennison in Holyoke. Active in his faith, he was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby. He was a loving man who adored his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Hwa Boon Sim. They were married in Yong in Goon, South Korea on December 12, 1961 and were blessed with nearly 51 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Chan K. Choe of Granby, Anna C. Chung and her husband, Young, of Waterford, CT, Theresa Hager and her husband, Jon, of West Springfield, and Sang K. Choe and his wife, Jinhee, of Chicopee; his seven cherished grandsons, Connor Chung, Matthew Chung, Christopher Hager, Nicholas Hager, Daniel Choe, Andrew Choe, and Kenneth Choe; his three dear sisters in South Korea; his dear brother in law, Keun Bok Lee and his wife, Keum Ja Lee, of Ludlow; his dear sister in law, Hwa Ja Sim of Illinois; and several dear nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother. Visiting hours and funeral services were private on Friday, October 5, 2012 from the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 256 State Street, Granby, MA 01033. His burial followed the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to Hospice Life Care, 113 Hampden Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
