Augusta, GA – Mrs. Evelyn Mims Adams, 100, beloved wife of the late Raymond Lamar Adams, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 5, 2012 at National Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Murell and Dr. Kevin Steele officiating. Interment to follow in Westover Memorial Park.
Evelyn was born in Lincolnton, GA to Martin Nick Mims and Lucy Bentley Mims. The oldest of six children Evelyn moved to Augusta at the age of 15 to work to support her family. She was a devoted member of National Hills Baptist Church and kept her church directory close at hand to call everyone on their birthday. Evelyn will be remembered for her devotion to her Lord and her love for her friends and family.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Ray Adams (Debbie); her brother, A. Wendell Mims (Louise); her sisters, Virginia Timmerman, Sara Wynne, Marjorie Edmonds, and Edith Lockaby; her grandsons, Herb Gilstrap (Luana), and Adam Gilstrap (Marie); and her seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her devoted caregivers ; Priscilla Davis, Frankie Poole, and the entire Davis family and staff at Davis Personal Care Home for their loving care that they showed to Evelyn over the many years that she lived with them.
In addition to her husband Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Elisabeth Adams Gilstrap; and her brother, William H. Mims.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, October 4, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
