Taunton, William N. Andrews a former Dighton resident for over 60 years died Sunday Sept. 30, 2012 after a lengthy illness at Golden Living of Wedgemere at the age of 96. He was the husband of the late Vera Inez (Shuffield) Andrews. He was born in Philadelphia, PA son of the late Perley Lester Andrews born in Coventry RI and Ruth (Main) Andrews born in North Stonington, CT. Mr. Andrews earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1937 from Rhode Island State College (now University of Rhode Island). During his time there he lettered in track his freshman year and cross country all four years. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army infantry and participated in several Pacific campaigns during WWII. He settled in Dighton and worked for the US Department of Agriculture as a Soil Conservationist for thirty years. He was a founding member of the Poppasquash Community Club in Dighton. He is survived by two sons Wayne Andrews and his wife Susanne of N. Dighton and William Andrews Jr. and his wife Anona Marie of Richardson TX. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was pre-deceased by two bothers Kenneth and Robert Andrews. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 5-8pm, Funeral Services will be at 7pm. Burial will be private.
