Obituary

NEWELL - Hayward J. Newell, 78, passed away Monday evening, October 1, 2012 at his Yulee, FL residence. Mr. Newell was born December 21, 1933 in Bridgeboro, GA and moved to Yulee in 1972 from Fort Walton Beach, FL.
He was Korean War Veteran and a Vietnam Veteran serving with the U. S. Air Force and retiring with over 20 years service. He was awarded numerous medals including the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement medal as well as others. He also retired from the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Jacksonville, FL in 1992 where he was known as "Big Daddy."
Mr. Newell was a member and elder with Bread of Life Ministries. He was generous and always willing to help others often at his own expense. He was a good man, a faithful husband and devoted father. To many in the community he was known as "The Mayor of Boggy Creek."
He was predeceased by his father, James Newell; mother, Reveila Carter and step father, James Carter.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen Newell ; four daughters, Brenda Jones (Frankie), Connie Newell, Bonnie Crawford (Jimmy) and Delores Strauder (Zach), all of Yulee; three brothers, David Dozier (Wylene) of Clewiston, FL, A. L. Newell who lives in TN and T. B. Newell of Panama City, FL; eleven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and another great grandchild soon to be born.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Rizzi officiating. Interment will follow in Green Pine Cemetery with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
