Anne F. Martin, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at her home.
Memorial services will be held at 4 P.M., Sunday, June 6, 2004, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Fitzgerald, with Father Neal Phelps and the Rev. Nancy Mills officiating.
Mrs. Martin was born February 27, 1926, in New Brockton, Alabama, to the late Dr. James A. and Rita Lanier Fussell. She attended the University of Georgia Cadet Nursing Program and moved to Fitzgerald in 1948 after receiving her degree in Elementary Education from Georgia Southern College. Mrs. Martin taught first grade at First Ward School until 1951. In 1963 she received her LPN nurses training at Ben Hill County Hospital and worked for many years for Dr. Ralph Roberts and Dr. Charles Durden. After retiring, she worked as an LPN at the VA Hospital in Denver, Colorado and for two summers, she and her husband worked at Yosemite National Park in California and Bryce Cannon National Park in Utah. Mrs. Martin was a former member of the Ladies Circle at Central United Methodist Church and was an active member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Mrs. Martin was an avid bridge player.
Mrs. Martin is survived by her husband: Jack W. Martin, Fitzgerald; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Father Joel W. Martin, St. Bernard Abbey, Cullman, AL, Jim and Gail Martin, Fitzgerald, Jay and Robin Martin, Dublin, GA; one daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and Tripp Adams, Lawrenceville, GA; four grandchildren and one great grandson; two brothers: Jimmy Fussell, Enterprise, AL and Phil Fussell, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
